In Abu Dhabi CMS Energy was awarded in 1998 the first
Privatized Power & Water Desalination plant for Abu Dhabi Water
& Electricity Authority (ADWEA). The Al Taweelah A2 Plant started
supplying 710 MW and 50 MIGD in August 2001. CMS Energy holds 40%
of this Project, while ADWEA holds the remaining 60%. CMS Energy will
operate and maintain the plant for 20 years.
CMS Energy, in consortium with International Power
Plc of the United Kingdom, was awarded a $1.6 billion contract in
mid 2001 to build another private Power and Water Desalination Plant
at Shuweihat, 260 kilometers west of the City of Abu Dhabi. CMS Energy
will hold a 20% shareholding in this new Project, while International
Power will hold 20% and the state-controlled Abu Dhabi Water &
Electricity Authority will own the remaining 60 percent.
The plant will have a capacity of 1,500 megawatts
and 100 million gallons a day of water. CMS Energy and International
Power will be responsible for constructing and commissioning of the
Project, and will subsequently operate and maintain the plant for
the 20 year period after completion.
CMS Energy has become an active player in Gulf markets.
CMS Energy has annual sales of about $6 billion and assets of about
$14 billion worldwide.
